CLIENT: Atkins/Dubai Airports
STUDY TYPE: Classified Vehicle Counts/OD Surveys
DATE: August – November 2010, September - December 2015
i4 Research undertook the initial study of airside traffic activity in 2010. This was the first time a video-based methodology had been applied for data collection. Many presentations and meetings with police, security, CID and RTA were required prior to obtaining approvals.
A video methodology was crucial in order to be able to provide an accurate breakdown of the various operational vehicles unique to airports. Along with a comprehensive presentation of traffic flows across the site, speed data was also gathered at specific sites to try and identify causes of bottlenecks and efficiency issues.
Surveys were conducted using a mix of video, automatic and manual methodologies and included over 120 camera system installations. i4 Research used their own company vehicles for installation, monitoring and removal at all airside locations.
A further study with a very similar scope and scale was completed at the end of 2015.
