STUDY TYPE: Bus & Passenger Flow Surveys/Interview Surveys
DATE: August – November 2010, September - December 2015
I4Research were instructed by Dubai Airports to assess the bus compliance and ridership profiles for each of the 7 defined bus routes serving 104 bus stops on airside. The primary purpose of these routes is to transfer staff to and from their place of work at the airport.
As part of these surveys i4reseach had to assess the compliance of bus behavior at key defined bus stops, compliance with bus schedules as well as collecting the bus ridership classification profile of all passengers boarding/alighting each bus at all of the defined bus stops. Passengers were classified into 11 different stakeholders based on their uniforms. These surveys were completed by using specialized high-definition video camera systems positioned within the bus and reviewing the videos manually to capture the detail required. Further video cameras were installed at each of the 30 key bus stops to assess bus behavior in terms of stop location and frequency/time of arrival/dwell time.
In addition, face-to-face interviews were required to collect stakeholder information for those passengers without uniforms. Key bus stops were defined serving non-uniformed passengers based on the findings of the video based surveys. 1 interviewer was positioned at each of the defined bus stops and was instructed to conduct a short interview with all non-uniformed passengers.
These surveys were conducted for 24 continuous hours and each route was surveyed in its entirety.
